Introduction

Meet Ron Schultz from Medaryville, IN. Ron had no irrigation prior to his first system installed in 2017.  He has learned to water early and before your crops need it. He also warns to not shut the system off too early- “seems like if you shut it off, you lose out.”

Soil Moisture Probe

Soil moisture probes, or soil moisture sensors, are devices that measure the soil moisture, temperature, and salinity at different depths of the crop root zone. More info on soil moisture probes.

“The best thing was putting in the probe so we could tell when the soil needed water.” states Ron.

Ron’s Drip System

Ron previously had a 10-year average of 140 bushels of corn per acre and now is in the 280’s every year with one year reaching 300 bushels. With beans, Ron was averaging 45 bushels and with drip it’s been 85-100 bushels per acre.

Ron feels that the system is easy to run and almost trouble free with maybe 2 leaks per year. Putting nutrients through the system is also easy and using tissue samples to adjust to the crop needs just makes sense.

With the remote monitoring, Ron said he doesn’t really ever have to leave the house unless he goes to visit the field every few days since he can see on his iPad how things are running.

“You can’t get simpler than that.” Ron Schultz
