About

Meet Dwight Niehoff from Lockwood, Missouri. Dwight owns 1500 acres of crop land and 1500 acres of pasture; of those 360 acres has subsurface drip irrigation. Drip was Dwight’s first form of irrigation and according to him it’s probably going to be the only type he does from here on out.

Dwight has corn on about 50 percent of his acres so he can try to treat each crop with the best quality possible, make the most of his water resources, maximize bushel and quality of grain.

Water Source

Dwight’s well is capable of 1,200 gallons per minute but due to electrical problems and financial factors, Dwight pumps 900-1,000 gallons per minute.

Fertigation

Dwight has worked with about 7-10 different commodity products through drip. Dwight uses 365, BW Fusion and other companies to tell him where he’s deficient at in every growth stage. With the products not reacting to the water, it increases yield.

This year, Dwight applied 75% of his nitrogen through the drip line. Dwight has also applied phosphorus, potassium, and more through drip.

Dwight did not have sufficient amounts of nutrients beforehand, but the drip tape has allowed him to supply his crop with needed nutrients in a safe and cost-effective way.
