Manure management is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve soil health, increase crop yields, and reduce fertilizer costs—but getting the most value out of manure depends on how it’s processed, transported, and applied.
In this on-farm trial, we’re showcasing how portable manure separation and precision application can improve nutrient efficiency and deliver real results in corn production.
Portable Manure Separation: Improving Nutrient Efficiency
Using NutraDrip’s portable manure separation system, mounted on a trailer, manure was processed directly at the source before being transported to the field.
This system allows farmers to:
- Separate and manage manure more efficiently
- Improve nutrient consistency
- Reduce handling challenges
- Move nutrients where they’re needed most
After separation, the farmer hauled the manure approximately 3 miles to the field for application.
This kind of flexibility is key for modern farms looking to optimize manure management, nutrient placement, and operational efficiency.
Manure Application Rates: 60 vs. 100 Gallons Per Acre
To evaluate performance, we set up a side-by-side field trial on corn ground:
- 100 gallons per acre applied on one side
- 60 gallons per acre applied on the other
- A check strip in the middle for direct comparison
This trial helps answer critical questions around:
- Optimal manure application rates for corn
- Nutrient availability and uptake
- Return on investment (ROI) for manure use
Streamer Application for Better Nutrient Placement
Manure was applied using streamer bars directly onto bare soil, which will be planted to corn this season.
Streamer application is a key part of precision agriculture and offers several advantages:
- Improved nutrient placement
- Reduced nitrogen loss
- Better soil contact
- More uniform application across the field
When combined with manure separation, this approach creates a more efficient and effective nutrient management system.
Soil Health and Crop Yield Benefits
Even though manure may not look like much on the surface after application, it plays a critical role in:
- Improving soil structure
- Increasing organic matter
- Enhancing microbial activity
- Supporting early corn growth
These benefits contribute directly to higher crop yields and improved long-term soil health.
On-Farm Trials: Data-Driven Farming
This trial is designed to generate real-world data that farmers can use to make better decisions.
Instead of guessing, on-farm testing helps determine:
- The best manure application rate for maximum yield
- How separated manure performs in field conditions
- The most efficient way to apply nutrients
This is what data-driven farming and precision agriculture look like in practice.
Bring This Manure Management System to Your Farm
NutraDrip’s portable system makes it possible to bring advanced manure management solutions directly to your operation.
We work with farmers to:
- Implement portable manure separation
- Optimize manure application rates
- Improve nutrient efficiency
- Run on-farm trials to validate results
Whether you want to rent a NutraDrip separation trailer for seasonal use or invest in your own portable manure separation system, we offer flexible options to fit your operation.
If you’re looking to reduce fertilizer costs, improve soil health, and increase yields, this system can be tailored to your farm.
What to Expect at Harvest
We’ll return this fall to evaluate:
- Yield differences between treatments
- Crop consistency across the field
- Overall nutrient efficiency and ROI
Because when it comes to manure management, the real results show up at harvest.
