Introduction

Meet Jim and Lisa Rush from Nebraska. With limited water in their region, they turned to drip irrigation 8-9 years ago to get the most out of every drop. They've mastered the art of making every resource count, ensuring crops thrive while conserving water.

Jim and Lisa’s Story

Jim and Lisa’s 150-acre “L” shaped field wasn't going to be fully irrigated, even with two pivots, and the two wells on the property pumped a max of 200 gal/minute per well, which wasn't going to be enough to feed pivots. The odd shaped field and limited water supply presented challenges when considering irrigation. After installing subsurface drip irrigation with NutraDrip Irrigation, Jim and Lisa are now able to irrigate the full 150 acres with their total water supply of 400 gallons/minute. They have found numerous other benefits to the SDI system including fertilizing through the drip line, spoon-feeding nutrients to the root zone and decreasing water loss through evaporation. Jim feels that investing in SDI for land you already have is a worthwhile investment, especially considering the cost of buying land.  He also likes drip because you can install drip systems on any topography no matter if it's hilly, flat, etc.

Conclusion

Subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) can help farmers overcome unique challenges related to irrigation and fertigation.

“Come and check it out for yourself. I mean, it might work for you, it might not, but for us, it's great.” Jim Rush
